Love your pet with a big hug,
not a big sneeze. Wendy
shares her tips to help reduce
watery eyes and stuffy noses!
1
Bathing pets regularly is
one of the best options
for combating allergies.
It may be a pain in the tail,
especially if you have to give
a cat a bath.
2
If you are allergic to
cats or dogs, make the
HEPA vacuum cleaner
your best friend. It is very
important to clean up any
excess hair or dander left
by your furry pal. Vacuum
floors, dust counters and
wash carpets often in order
to reduce the amount of
allergens.
3
Keep pets out of the
bedroom. We all like
to curl up with our pet
in bed, but people who are
allergic may be cuddling with
disaster. Teach pets to sleep
in a separate room nearby,
possibly in a pet bed.

M any o f us hum ans sim ply love gardening and w o rkin g w ith plants. We also
love our four-legged, tail-w agging friends. However, the tw o do not always go
hand in hand. Some dogs see plants as a green snack and can become "sick as
a dog" or worse if they eat them. Luckily, there are p len ty of pet-friendly tips
and plants that can help create pet-plant harm ony!
SNIFF AR O U N D ! Before you p u t in
any plants in your garden or home, do
some research and learn w hich plants
m ay be toxic to your dog or cat. For
example, azaleas can cause stomach
and abdom inal pain in your pet, w h ile
w ater hem lock can cause convulsions,
seizures and even death. Fortunately,
not all are pet enemies. There are
hundreds of plants, like blue eyed
daisies and Jasmine, w h ich are not only
non-toxic, b u t fu ll o f color and beauty!
D R IN K RESPONSIBLY! W hen
w atering plants, make sure you keep
them in a place that is far aw ay from
your canine or feline. If possible, try to
avoid using chemicals or pesticides in
your water. Your fu rry friends m ight
be tem pted to sneak a d rin k from the
flow er pot and end up in the vet's
office - o r even worse!
W HO LET THE DOGS OUT? M ake
sure your dog or cat is safe in your
yard b y having a fence. The only
thing worse than your pet doing
their ow n gardening is yo u r pet
redecorating someone else's! N o t only
is it embarrassing to explain to yo u r
neighbor w h y his or her tomatoes are
m issing, b u t you do not know w hat
k in d of toxic plants they m ay have or
w hat kinds o f chemicals or pesticides
they m ay use. If you fo llo w these
sim ple steps, your pet and yo u r plants
can have a happy, harm onious and,
m ost im portantly, safe co-existence.
